Financial Inducement.

August 16, 2017

My one year boy has just started taking his first tentative steps. He is however good at kicking a ball (both feet). He does go down a little easily although that might be seen as an advantage to some clubs. With this in mind I was wondering what’s the earliest age Premier League clubs offer parents a ‘financial inducement’ to join their academy. The sooner the better from my perspective.

More Harry the Hornet?

August 14, 2017

I was looking at the stats of my football blog (because analysis is the key to success) and the most popular post this year was to do with Harry the Hornet. Who knew this was what football fans wanted to read about??

Now my management team want me to write more stuff about Harry the Hornet. The only problem is I’ve more than exhausted my interest in Harry the Hornet. What to do?

Any advice will be gratefully received via the comments button or @viewfromthetrev

How do you hand in a transfer request?

August 12, 2017

Anyone know how to hand in a transfer request? I only ask after Philippe Coutinho sent his by email.
Firstly, email strikes me as being an old skool method of communication.
Secondly, who did he send it to? The owners? Klopp? or HR?
Did he cobble together a letter or are there templates for this kind of thing?

So many questions. Should you be able to answer any of them you can let me know via the comments button or @viewfromthetrev

What’s the 2nd best moment of the Premier League?

August 11, 2017

The Premier League is 25 yrs old. What to get the entity that has everything (apart from the best players in the world)?

If we agree that Aguer-oooooo was the greatest moment of the Premier League era, what is the second best? Ps. If you say Gerrard’s slip you’re a sick pervert.

Club vs Country

July 31, 2017

Congrats to England’s women who’ve got through to the semi-final of the Euros. If however someone could guarantee that they win the whole tournament but your club side would lose their opening 2 games of this upcoming season, would you take the deal?

Anyone excited?

June 10, 2017

Considering this Scotland v England game is a World Cup qualifier it seems really low-key. I don’t know if it’s because it feels like the football season has been over for a while. Or maybe it’s because the election has re-directed our attention, or likewise the two recent terrorist attacks. Or could it be that both teams are a bit rubbish.

I could of course be wrong and most people are really looking forward to this game. If that is you let me know via the comments button @viewfromthetrev

No offence to Take Me Out

June 2, 2017

I have a bone to pick with the FA.

If the FA Cup final had kicked off at 3pm I would have been able to watch it in peace as the other half and child had gone out for the day.

However with the kick off being 5:30pm, I ended up having to watch whilst making the baby’s dinner, feeding him, getting him out of his clothes for a bath and putting him to bed. This is not an ideal way to watch football.

For what it’s worth, I don’t think the FA Cup final should ever have to compete for viewers with Take Me Out (no offence to Take Me Out).

Why do football clubs sign flops?

May 27, 2017

I’m currently reading a book about football scouting ‘The Nowhere Men’. The first thing I noted was how unglamorous  scouting is, followed by how badly they are paid.

Football clubs now deploy a network of scouts across this country, Europe and the world. Each scout has to write detailed reports, that are then logged on a central computer. These days clubs will also employ people to analyse data on the individual players. With all this going on you would think that a club would never sign a dud. Yet we know this is not the case and even when big money is spent on a player they can flop. It makes me think that despite all the advancements of player recruitment, it is still pretty much hit and miss.

Have you ever got someone the sack?

March 27, 2017

After Leicester won the League, I told anyone that would listen (no one) that Claudio Ranieri should resign. My thinking being, that when results went against him he’d be gone by Christmas. Obviously I said Christmas as an exaggeration, I should have said before March.

After Ranieri did get the sack, there was speculation in the press that some of the players had spoken to the owners in order to get rid of him. The players subsequently denied this but it does beg the question, have you ever got someone the sack? You can contact me via the comments button or @viewfromthetrev

It’s Crystal clear (sort of)

February 16, 2017

I’m not a Crystal Palace fan.

I only mention this because a colleague is convinced I am, even though in the past I have pointed out I am not.

I now think I’ve gone past the point of no return. I even feel under pressure to know what is going on at Palace for when we talk football.

Like most things in my life, I’ve probably only got myself to blame. A while back, I read Simon Jordan‘s book, ‘Be Careful What You Wish For’ and mentioned this to my colleague who is a Palace fan. Naturally, my colleague assumed that the only people who would be interested in this book would be Palace fans and has stood by this view despite my efforts.

Ps. My immediate boss thinks I’m a Man City fan. I’m not. It’s comforting to know I’ve made such an impression at work.

Til next time, be nice to each other.
