Can Premier League clubs afford to pay staff a Living Wage?

November 30, 2014

Hola. Hope you are well.

I was interested to see that David Lammy MP is fronting a campaign to get Premier League clubs to pay their lowest earning staff a Living Wage.

At first, I thought this sounded like a good idea but then I wondered if the Premier League clubs would have enough money to fund such a move. After all we wouldn’t want them stretched to the point where they wouldn’t be able to pay the players or their agents.

Then I remembered that the Premier League’s most recent TV deal was worth £3bn. With this knowledge, I went back to thinking David Lammy is on the right track.

It’s been a roller coaster of emotions.

Til next time, stay safe!

Has the Champions League lost its Heart (Fm)

November 8, 2014

Hola. Hope you are well.

I decided to go to my local pub to watch Real Madrid v Liverpool. I got there a little before kick off, only to find it was really quiet with only one TV screen on and that was set to Heart Fm.

As the match was about to start I had to ask for another TV to be turned on. This was done but Heart Fm remained, so the first half was played to the soundtrack of modern pop tunes. That and 2 guys arguing about whether you should or shouldn’t wash chicken before cooking (feel free to join the debate via the comments button or on twitter @viewfromthetrev).

By the second half the chicken debaters had gone (Heart Fm remained) leaving me at this point as the only customer in the pub. I was therefore quite pleased when a man came in, only to realise he was dropping off a take away for the barmaid.

I couldn’t help thinking that when UEFA came up with the idea of the Champions League, they didn’t have this in mind.

Til next time, stay safe!
