Ashley Cole and Martin Luther King Jr

February 23, 2013

Hola. Hope you are well.

I’m going to start this blog post by congratulating two Chelsea players. Yes you read that right.

First up is Frank Lampard, who has managed to secure a deal to write children’s books. Having had a book published I know how hard it can be to get a deal, so I’m just glad that Frank’s hours of writing, re-writes and editing has eventually paid off. Frank mentioned his stories are “loosely based on friends and team mates”. If any of the stories are loosely based on John Terry the children might be in for an interesting read and parents in for awkward questions.

The second Chelsea player up for praise is Ashley Cole, who won his 100th England cap against Brazil. He’s the 7th English player to reach that landmark, he’s also the first person of colour to reach that figure. He may not be universally liked but heart warmingly this has nothing to do with the colour of his skin but because he’s a bit of an idiot. In many ways Ashley Cole is the human embodiment of these lines from Martin Luther King Jr’s ‘I Have a Dream’ speech,

“I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character”.

In other news, Paul Ince was appointed the new Blackpool manager, where his son Tom is a player. This made me think about parents muscling in on your thing. So feel free to let me know when your parent got involved in something that was previously your thing. You can contact me via the comments button.

On to another family connection and this week I found out Morrissey is related to Robbie Keane. admittedly they are distant relatives but relatives all the same. This fact made me wonder why I’d not heard about this before. So with this in mind what have you recently found out that you’re now surprised you didn’t previously know.

And Finally… another family story. Diego Maradona has become a dad for the 5th time, with the birth of his new son (congratulations should you be reading this Diego). He’s named his son Diego, this alone isn’t that odd, but it is when you consider Diego already has a son called Diego. Surely no one reading this has two children with the same first name. If you have, or you know someone who has, let me know. George Foreman need not reply.

Til next time, stay safe!

Man jogs with other men

February 3, 2013

Hola. Hope you are well.

I’m going to start this blog post by saying I think the Swansea ball-boy should think himself lucky that instead of a little kick from Eden Hazard, Ashley Cole hadn’t gone and got his air rifle.

On to David Beckham, who was recently training at Arsenal to gain his fitness. Personally I think we should all ring our local football club and see if we can train there. This was such a big story that on BBC Breakfast they showed Beckham running with some members of the Arsenal squad. It was so exciting they could have entitled this piece, ‘Man jogs with other men’.

Not only was Beckham training with Arsenal, he also announced he would be joining PSG for 5 months. This did strike me as an odd move, as PSG are one of the wealthiest clubs in the world and David Beckham is 37 and has just spent 6 yrs playing in the MLS. You’d have to wonder what PSG are getting out of the move, unless of course shirt sales are slow.

Beckham being Beckham didn’t leave it there, it was also made known that he would be donating his wages to a local children’s charity during his time at PSG, a nice touch I think. So with this in mind, I’ve decided to give my football wages over the next 5 months to charity. (knowing my luck, I’m going to get a high paid football job in the next 5 months)

One move that didn’t happen was Peter Odemwingie from West Brom to QPR, despite Peter turning up at QPR in an attempt to push the transfer through. I’d like to think this only happens in football, but feel free to let me know when you’ve hung around outside somewhere, with the hope something would happen. Did it work? You can contact me via the comments button. If you are a teacher reading this, I wouldn’t advise hanging around a school you’d like to move to. I can’t see that working out well for you.

One person who did get a move to QPR was Chris Samba. In no way am I saying he is motivated by money, mainly because he is built like an out-house, but he did leave Blackburn to go to¬†Anzhi Makhachkala . Why would he do that? The money? The racist abuse? Who knows? Now he’s moved to QPR, the bottom club in the Premier league. Why would he do that?

And Finally.. I was talking to Prong 2, from the 3 Prong Attack radio show and I said I think Carlos Tevez has grown into his look and is better looking now than when he first came to this country. Prong 2 was having none of this, so I will leave it up to you to decide. Who is right me, Prong 1 or Prong 2?

Just so you know I don’t sit round with my friends constantly assessing the attractiveness of players, honest.

Til next time, stay safe!
