The criticism of Liverpool.

November 8, 2017

The criticism of Liverpool often goes something like this:

The goalkeepers aren’t good enough.
The full backs aren’t good enough.
The centre halves aren’t good enough.
There’s not enough creativity in central midfield.
They don’t have an out and out striker.

Klopp should be doing better than what he is.

An absent manager.

September 12, 2017

Rafa Benitez missed Newcastle’s win over Swansea whilst recovering from surgery. A manager missing a game is pretty rare but it does happen. Having said this I do remember Rafa missing a game as Liverpool manager after an operation for gallstones.

It does beg the question, which Premier League manager has missed the most games that their team were taking part in? I must confess I don’t have the answer. You can give your suggestions via the comments button or @viewfromthetrev

In solidarity with Frank.

September 11, 2017

I have a fair amount of sympathy for Frank de Boer, not only has he been sacked by Crystal Palace after 4 games, he’s likely to be replaced by Roy Hodgson. No one wants that on their CV.

I don’t know if Frank is married but if he is I hope his wife didn’t give up her job to join him in London or he might have had an awkward conversation earlier today.

In solidarity with Frank, when have you moved country for a job only for it to rapidly unravel? You can contact me via the comments button or @viewfromthetrev

Remainer

September 6, 2017

This transfer window was shaped by players that didn’t move as much as it was by those that did. I’m thinking of Coutinho, Van Djik, Costa, Sanchez. These players probably thought their actions (or inactions) would have got them a move away from their clubs.

With this in mind, when have you told people you were leaving your job only for you to remain?

Financial Inducement.

August 16, 2017

My one year boy has just started taking his first tentative steps. He is however good at kicking a ball (both feet). He does go down a little easily although that might be seen as an advantage to some clubs. With this in mind I was wondering what’s the earliest age Premier League clubs offer parents a ‘financial inducement’ to join their academy. The sooner the better from my perspective.

How do you hand in a transfer request?

August 12, 2017

Anyone know how to hand in a transfer request? I only ask after Philippe Coutinho sent his by email.
Firstly, email strikes me as being an old skool method of communication.
Secondly, who did he send it to? The owners? Klopp? or HR?
Did he cobble together a letter or are there templates for this kind of thing?

So many questions. Should you be able to answer any of them you can let me know via the comments button or @viewfromthetrev

What’s the 2nd best moment of the Premier League?

August 11, 2017

The Premier League is 25 yrs old. What to get the entity that has everything (apart from the best players in the world)?

If we agree that Aguer-oooooo was the greatest moment of the Premier League era, what is the second best? Ps. If you say Gerrard’s slip you’re a sick pervert.

Have you ever got someone the sack?

March 27, 2017

After Leicester won the League, I told anyone that would listen (no one) that Claudio Ranieri should resign. My thinking being, that when results went against him he’d be gone by Christmas. Obviously I said Christmas as an exaggeration, I should have said before March.

After Ranieri did get the sack, there was speculation in the press that some of the players had spoken to the owners in order to get rid of him. The players subsequently denied this but it does beg the question, have you ever got someone the sack? You can contact me via the comments button or @viewfromthetrev

It’s Crystal clear (sort of)

February 16, 2017

I’m not a Crystal Palace fan.

I only mention this because a colleague is convinced I am, even though in the past I have pointed out I am not.

I now think I’ve gone past the point of no return. I even feel under pressure to know what is going on at Palace for when we talk football.

Like most things in my life, I’ve probably only got myself to blame. A while back, I read Simon Jordan‘s book, ‘Be Careful What You Wish For’ and mentioned this to my colleague who is a Palace fan. Naturally, my colleague assumed that the only people who would be interested in this book would be Palace fans and has stood by this view despite my efforts.

Ps. My immediate boss thinks I’m a Man City fan. I’m not. It’s comforting to know I’ve made such an impression at work.

Til next time, be nice to each other.

Harry the Hornet

January 26, 2017

My favourite football story of the festive period was Sam Allardyce falling out with Harry the Hornet (Watford’s mascot). Harry’s crime was mimicking a dive by Wilfried Zaha. Big Sam was so upset by this that he wanted the FA to charge Harry the Hornet.

Imagine if the FA had taken Sam at his word and charged Harry and then Harry the Hornet wanted a personal hearing. Would Harry the Hornet have to turn up in his mascot’s outfit? Does Harry the Hornet even speak? With so many questions like these going unanswered it’s probably best the FA decided Harry the Hornet didn’t have a case to answer.

All this on Sam Allardyce’s first game in charge of Crystal Palace. Feel free to let me know who you argued with on the first day of a new job. You can contact me via the comments button.
