Mario Balotelli is 100% human

August 26, 2014

Hola. Hope you are well.

The way some people are speaking about Mario Balotelli, it’s almost as if Brendan Rodgers has taken leave of his senses and decided to sign a mythical creature who’s half human, half beast, rather than the current Italy striker.

I’ve heard it said that he’s a ‘risk‘ and that he may ‘lead players astray’. What is he going to do, try to convince Raheem Sterling to wag/bunk off training?

Having said this, if Liverpool do want someone to look out for Mario to ensure he doesn’t get into any scrapes, I’m offering my services. I currently work in a Secondary school, working 1-1 with a pupil. I’ve previously worked as a Mentor and worked in a Primary school, not that I’m saying working with children of this age would in any way be similar to dealing with a professional footballer. I also have a Level 1 football coaching badge, so I’m qualified to put out some cones at training.

Leaving London would be a wrench (it wouldn’t) but it’s a sacrfice I’m prepared to make, plus I’m from the NorthWest so it would be like moving home for me.

So if you work at Liverpool or have any influence at the club, could you pass on my offer to the relevant people. Your support will be gratefully received.

Til next time, stay safe!

I spy with my little eye

August 22, 2014

Hola. Hope you are well.

At the end of last season I said to anyone who would listen, which turned out to be no one, that Tony Pulis should leave Crystal Palace, not because I have anything against Palace but because his stock would never be higher, having taken Palace to 11th place and being named manager of the year. Having said that, I was still surprised that 2 days before the start of the Premier League season Pulis had left Palace.

On hearing the news, my thoughts did turn to Martin Kelly who had only signed for Palace a few hours previously. I wonder if Tony Pulis knew he’d be off as Martin was putting pen to paper? This made me think, does this kind of thing go on in real life?

Have you ever got a job and then the person instrumental in getting you that job leaves shortly afterwards? Or maybe you got a job and not long afterwards the company went out of business. Hopefully things have turned out ok now but if that was you, let me know the circumstances via the comments button or on twitter @viewfromthetrev

And Finally… Crystal Palace were found guilty for spying on Cardiff last season, in order to find out Cardiff’s team the day before the game. Palace went on to beat Cardiff 3-0. I find it hard to believe it was the prior knowledge of the Cardiff team that caused this result and not more to do with Cardiff being a bit rubbish. With this in mind, I want to know have you ever spied on someone, especially if you got caught.

Who will finish higher?

August 15, 2014

Hola. Hope you are well.

I know this is a pointless question and I generally steer clear of predictions because only Russell Grant knows what will happen in the future BUT who will finish higher in the Premier League, Liverpool or Man Utd? (alphabetical order)

It goes without saying that Man Utd had a horrible last season, finishing 7th. However, I think Van Gaal will be good for them. He’s the kind of no-nonsense (some say nutter) manager the players will be used to. Having said that, the manager alone will only make a certain amount of difference and so far their summer signings have included an expensive left back and Herrera to play the No 10 role, when they have a number of players who could play that position.

Liverpool on the other hand over achieved last season finishing 2nd. However they have lost their star man, Suarez and gone about replacing him with anyone with a surname beginning with ‘L’ at Southampton. Liverpool may miss the goals of Suarez but if they decide that defending is part of the game he may not be missed as much as some may think.

So with this in mind (and your own thoughts) who will finish higher this season Liverpool or Man Utd? You can let me know via the comments button or on twitter @viewfromthetrev

Ps. Remember: It’s meant to be a bit of fun

Do Chelsea have enough goals in them?

August 15, 2014

Hola. Hope you are well.

Chelsea are many people’s tip to win the Premier League. They are also the bookies favourite.

The one question I would throw out there is whether there’s enough goals in Costa, Torres and the returning Drogba. I know they have loads of attacking midfielders, Salah, Willian, Fabregas, Oscar, Hazard but are Torres and Drogba good enough as the back up strikers?

Jose Mourinho is obviously a fan of Drogba who at his best was big, strong, good in the air and scored goals, which is why it is odd that he never fancied Lukaku, who at his best is big, strong, good in the air and scores goals.

Cash back

August 14, 2014

Hola. Hope you are well.

A few blog posts ago, I wrote about transfers that didn’t make sense as the player wouldn’t get much playing time. Since then Pepe Reina signed for Bayern Munich, where he will be competing for a place with Manuel Neuer, arguably the best goalkeeper in the world. Unless Pepe knows something we don’t, I expect he’ll be spending a lot of time on the bench.

One player who has signed for Liverpool is young Belgium player Divock Origi. As part of the agreement he was instantly loaned back to Lille for a season. Which may be seem as odd as Liverpool are still in the hunt for a striker. With this transfer in mind, what have you bought and then had to wait ages before using? Let me know via the comments button or on twitter @viewfromthetrev

And Finally … Leeds Utd have been given back £1:2m by West Yorkshire police having previously overpaid it. So, when have you got money back and how much was it? I don’t mind how small, in many ways the smaller the better.

Has Frank Lampard tarnished his Chelsea legacy?

August 6, 2014

Hola. Hope you are well.

I feel a bit sorry for Frank Lampard. The reason being that some Chelsea fans have turned on him and all because he’s signed for Man City for 5 months. Some believe that this has tarnished his Chelsea legacy?

This seems a bit harsh to me, firstly Frank Lampard will always be associated with Chelsea, he’s their current top scorer and all his successes have come with Chelsea.

Secondly, he’s only on loan at Man City and only because he doesn’t start with New York City FC til March.

What did people want him to do in these 5 months? He’s a footballer he needs to play football the part owners of New York are the owners of Man City so this would seem to be the obvious solution. Or would these people have preferred to see Frank employed by Man City to sell the hot dogs?

A right back special

August 1, 2014

Hola. Hope you are well.

Of all the players Southampton have sold this summer (and they’ve sold a few) the oddest one for me was Calum Chambers to Arsenal.

Firstly, Arsene Wenger who is generally cautious when it comes to spending money, seemed happy enough paying £16m for a 19 yr old right back, who has only made 18 Premier League starts. This after Arsenal had just bought the French International right back Mathieu Debuchy. Surely for his development Calum would have been better served by staying at Southampton and playing a full season.

Anyway, the big news about Calum moving to Arsenal is that he shares a nickname with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, ‘Chambo’. If you don’t believe me, read it in the Metro.

So with this in mind, how have you distinguished between 2 friends/work colleagues who have the same name. You can let me know via the comments button or on twitter @viewfromthetrev

Ps. As we are talking right backs with an Arsenal link, I didn’t understand why Bacary Sagna would leave Arsenal where he’s a first team regular to move to Man City, where he will be competing with Pablo Zabaleta arguably the most consistent right back in the Premier League.
