Where did it go wrong?

Hola. Hope you are well.

I’m going to start this blog post by talking about Mark Hughes, or ‘Under pressure Mark Hughes’ to give him his full name. It wasn’t that long ago that people thought he was harshly sacked by Man City. It was even more recently that he was being touted as being part of a management structure at Chelsea. Yet now, less than year at QPR there are quite a lot of people calling for his head. I heard one caller on a phone-in describe him as “tactically inept”. It did make me wonder if it is truly possible to play the game at such a high level, Man Utd and Barcelona and then go on to manage a number of premier league clubs and the Welsh  national team and still be tactically inept. You’d think somewhere along that journey he’d have picked up some tactical nous, in fact I would say it would be impossible for him not to have picked up something positive from all his roles.

For what it’s worth (not much) I’ve always thought Mark Hughes has done a good job at the clubs he’s been at and I’m not sure why it’s gone so wrong for him at QPR. I suppose sometimes for whatever reason it doesn’t work out for a manager at a particular club. I can’t help thinking however that perhaps bringing in14 new players (including 2 first team goalkeepers) in the summer wasn’t conducive to creating a settled side. Tony Fernandes seems to be continually offering Hughes his support, via Twitter (that’s modern football for you) but you can’t help but suspect that Harry Redknapp will soon be walking through the doors at Loftus Road.

And Finally… I read about this and thought it was a ******* disgrace. Make up your own mind.

Til next time, stay safe!
