The Scottish blog

Hola. Hope you are well.
Today’s blog post is all about Scottish football. Rarely are these blog posts about one subject, rarely do they touch on Scottish football and if I’m being honest on occasion they barely touch upon football. But as this has been a busy week of football in Scotland, I thought it would be wrong of me not to pass comment.
I’m going to start with Craig Levein and his departure from his post as Scotland manager. I have some sympathy for Craig, (more than my Scottish colleague at work, if his comments are to be taken at face value) when he took the role he was seen as a bright, forward thinking manager, not so much today (especially if I am to believe my Scottish colleague).
Although it may not have worked out for Craig as Scotland manager, he can at least take some consolation in the fact that he was the man who introduced the strikerless formation, when he sent Scotland out against the Czech Republic in a 4-6-0 formation. At the time received a lot of abuse for this system but I can’t help thinking he was ahead of his time, was it not the same system that Spain used to win this year’s Euros. So although Craig may not be viewed so fondly by Scottish football fans, he’s seen as a pioneer in Spain. This is why I suggest you put your hard earned money on Craig Levin being the next Spain manager. Remember where you heard it first.
Which now brings me on to Celtic beating Barcelona, a result I would never have predicted, nevermind put money on it. I don’t care who you support you have to think it was a remarkable victory for Celtic. Which made me think, considering the rivalry and where Rangers currently find themselves (Scottish 3rd Division) are there any Rangers fans out there willing to praise Celtic for their victory on Wednesday night? It may be a long shot, but then so was Celtic beating Barcelona.
And Finally… At the final whistle at Celtic Park, Rod Stewart was seen crying, so moved by the occasion, which makes me ask, as a fully grown adult (I assume that’s what Rod is) have you ever cried because of football? Feel free to contact me via the comments button)

Til next time, stay safe!
